Internet marketing is a continual process wherein you need to strive and invest enough time, effort and money to have a profitable result. If you aim for success for your online business, you should take the necessary steps to achieve it..

What is the best marketing tool which you can use to have a successful online business? List building is the key answer to that question..

Basically, an opt-in list is just a list of names and email address of people who have visited your website or bought a product through your website. This will enable you to send updates, emails or promotions to those who subscribed to your website. This is similar to a mailing list or just a simple membership in a club or shop, only in this way; opt-in list is made online.

Here are important things that will help you to build an effective list of subscribers.

  • Place a "subscribe link" or "subscribe box" on each page of your website and include a convincing reason why they need to subscribe.  Make sure that you strategically position the subscribe box, this should be easily seen by the people visiting your site. It is advisable to place it on the upper right hand corner of the page.
  • Give useful information like articles, press releases, videos or updates to your clients with the links of your pages. Just make sure that this information is relevant and helpful to your client.
  • Offer freebies to your visitors. It could be a report or a piece of software that will help you to maintain a good relationship with your subscribers. This can also served as an offer in exchange for a first name and an email address that your visitors sign-up to the subscribe box. You can also come up with contest and give some prizes.
  • Provide good quality content in your mailings. Once you offer articles, hints or tips to your subscriber, they will suggest this to their friends and they may sign up too. You can also encourage your subscriber to pass on your newsletter to their friends.
  • Search for forums or discussion boards relevant to your niche topic and participate to. As much as possible, help people solve their problems and you will be recognised as an expert. In doing so, you can build relationships with the people there and this is also a good way to get more contacts and prospects.
  • Keep your mailings simple. There is no need for you to put out vast volumes of information in each newsletter. Your subscribers already have email overload, so you just need to make it simple for yourself and to your readers.
  • Track down your results. Give attention to what information your subscribers respond most to and adapt your email marketing accordingly.
  • Email regularly to your subscribers. In order to achieve a great result in your list building, email them regularly. Don't let your subscriber forget about you and always lets them know that you give great value in your content.

Once you have built up your list, make sure that you look after it. Maintain  contact with your subscribers. Remember, your list will be the lifeblood of your online business, no matter what niche you are in.
